I began my swim career at 6 years old when I joined the Durham Summer Swim League, Parkwood Piranhas. I loved summer league and didn’t want the fun to end, so I started swimming year round. At 14, I first volunteered as a junior coach and discovered the only thing more fun than being a swimmer was helping kids learn to love swimming. Since then, there has not been a year of my life that I haven’t coached in some capacity! At 17, I was hired as an instructor and coach for the first time, and it’s what I’ve done ever since. I consider myself incredibly lucky to be in a position to help kids learn how to develop new skills, overcome fear, and tackle hard problems. But more than anything, at the core of my love for teaching is a desire for every kid to feel respected and celebrated for who they are.
